Karachi’s cinemas are packed, ticket counters are running dry on weekends, and the city’s multiplexes have not seen this kind of frenzy in years. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest entry in Tom Holland’s run as Peter Parker, has swung into Pakistani theatres and shattered box office records nationwide, with Karachi playing a central role in the film’s record-breaking opening.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened in Pakistani cinemas on July 31, and within its first three days in theatres, it had already broken the record for the biggest opening weekend of any film ever released in the country. The film earned roughly PKR 25 crore in that opening weekend alone, a number that surpassed every previous benchmark set by Hollywood or local releases in Pakistan’s cinema history. In Karachi specifically, major chains including Cinepax, Cinestar, and Cue Cinemas had advance bookings live well ahead of release day, and premium formats such as IMAX and 3D screens across the city were reportedly selling out for opening weekend shows. HKC Entertainment also confirmed screenings across its Pakistani locations, ensuring the film had wide availability across the country’s biggest cities, with Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad leading demand. The Arena, one of Pakistan’s premium cinema chains with a presence in major cities, has continued running the film in both 2D Urdu-dubbed and Digital 3D formats well into its second week, a sign that demand has not slowed down even after the opening rush.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who takes over from trilogy veteran Jon Watts, Brand New Day picks up four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. In this new chapter, Peter Parker is completely alone. Thanks to the reality-altering spell cast at the end of the previous film, the world has forgotten his secret identity entirely, forcing him to operate as a full-time vigilante in a New York City that no longer recognises him. The plot takes a darker turn as mounting physical and emotional pressure triggers a dangerous transformation in Peter, while a powerful, unseen villain emerges to threaten everything he has worked to protect. Tom Holland returns for his fourth solo outing as Peter Parker, joined by a stacked cast that includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Sadie Sink. The film runs two hours and thirty minutes and carries a PG-13 rating, making it accessible to teenage audiences, a demographic that has turned out in large numbers across Karachi’s cinemas since release.

The scale of anticipation heading into release was massive. The film’s trailer, released back in March 2026, reportedly racked up 800 million views within just 24 hours, a number so large it briefly overtook the previous record held by the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer for fastest trailer views. That kind of momentum carried directly into ticket sales once the film hit theatres worldwide. Globally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing film of 2026, achieving that milestone in just seven days of release. The film has crossed 1.15 billion dollars worldwide, made up of roughly 449 million dollars from North America and more than 700 million dollars from international markets. In doing so, it overtook Toy Story 5, which had previously held the title of the year’s top-grossing release with just over 1 billion dollars earned across its entire run so far. Industry trackers had projected an opening weekend in the range of 465 million dollars globally, with pre-sales reportedly outpacing even Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film that still holds the record for the second-highest domestic opening weekend of all time in North America at 260 million dollars. Brand New Day has now positioned itself as one of the fastest films in history to cross the billion-dollar mark, reflecting just how much goodwill and anticipation had built up around this franchise since No Way Home’s release back in 2021.

For Karachi, the film’s success reflects a broader trend that has been building for years, where global blockbusters continue to draw massive crowds despite competition from streaming platforms and the rising popularity of local Pakistani cinema. Karachi’s multiplexes, spread across neighbourhoods from Clifton to Gulshan-e-Iqbal, have leaned heavily into premium formats over the past few years, and Brand New Day’s opening weekend numbers suggest that audiences are willing to pay a premium for the big-screen experience when a film generates this much buzz. Weekday numbers have understandably dipped compared to the opening weekend, a pattern typical of any major release, but industry observers tracking the film’s performance note that the drop has been comparatively modest given how dominant its first few days were. With word of mouth continuing to build and the film still running in cinemas across the city, exhibitors in Karachi are expecting ticket sales to remain strong through the coming weeks, particularly as more families and student groups make their way to theatres during the ongoing summer break. For a city that has increasingly become one of Pakistan’s biggest markets for Hollywood releases, Brand New Day’s performance is being read as a strong signal for how future blockbuster releases might perform when marketing, star power and franchise loyalty all align at once.
